In the early evening of May 10, 2020, a dispute at John's Seafood on Springhill Avenue in Mobile, Alabama, tragically cut short the life of 19-year-old Klintaveus Thompson. The young man, a male who was just weeks away from his high school graduation, found himself in the middle of a heated argument that quickly turned violent. The conflict began when a woman named Titianna Shelton initiated a fight with Thompson's pregnant friend, reportedly over someone cutting in line.
As the
altercation escalated, Thompson intervened to protect his friend. During the ensuing struggle, he and Shelton crashed through a window of the restaurant. In the chaotic moments that followed, Shelton drew a. 40-caliber pistol. Surveillance footage from the scene captured her striking Thompson before shooting him in the back. Thompson succumbed to his injuries, his life ending just 18 days before he was set to walk across the stage and receive his high school diploma. In a poignant moment, his mother later accepted the diploma on his behalf.
The day after the fatal shooting, on May 11, 2020, police arrested 34-year-old Titianna Shelton and charged her with murder. The case proceeded through the legal system, culminating in a trial in March 2024. A Mobile County jury found Shelton guilty of intentional murder for the death of Klintaveus Thompson. In May 2024, a judge sentenced her to serve 20 years in prison for the senseless act of violence that stemmed from a common restaurant disagreement.
