In the late afternoon of a September day in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a dispute between a man and a woman over property they shared took a tragic and fatal turn. The man, 28-year-old Richard Earl Jenkins Jr., would not survive the encounter that unfolded on Monday, September 9, 2019.
That afternoon, around 4 p.m., police were called to the Timberlane II Apartments. There, they found Richard Earl Jenkins Jr. with a gunshot wound to his head.
He was urgently transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, but his injury proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators from the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit determined that Jenkins had been involved in a heated argument with a 29-year-old woman named Sheneka Hoskins. The argument was reportedly over the ownership of property they both laid claim to. As the disagreement escalated, it centered on a handgun. A struggle for the weapon ensued between Jenkins and Hoskins. During this physical confrontation, the handgun discharged, and the bullet struck Jenkins in the head.
Based on their investigation, law enforcement officials believed Hoskins was the aggressor in the altercation that led to Jenkins's death. She was subsequently arrested and charged with manslaughter for her role in the fatal shooting. Following her arrest, Sheneka Hoskins was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where her bond was set at $30,000.
