In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 6, 2017, the life of 21-year-old Elantheus Deshawn Prince, a male known to his friends as 'Spida,' was tragically cut short in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The fatal incident unfolded inside an apartment at the University Manor complex, where a dispute escalated into deadly violence. Prince was visiting his girlfriend when a confrontation arose with her roommate, 40-year-old Tamir Sabree Melvin.
According to authorities, the argument took a fatal turn
when Melvin allegedly fired a gun. Prince’s girlfriend was reportedly between the two men, attempting to de-escalate the situation, when the shot was fired. Tuscaloosa Police responded to a call about the shooting at approximately 2:05 a.m. Upon their arrival, they found that Prince had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. He was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His girlfriend was also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was subsequently released.
In the wake of the shooting, the Tuscaloosa Police Department launched an investigation which quickly led to the arrest of Tamir Sabree Melvin. He was taken into custody and charged with one count of murder for the death of Elantheus Deshawn Prince and one count of second-degree assault domestic violence. Following his arrest, Melvin's bail was set at $90,000.
