Sheriff Palmer Morrison Watts, aged 47, was fatally shot on August 15, 1918, while attempting to raid an illegal still in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. The suspect, identified as Doc Bigham, had previously threatened to kill anyone who tried to arrest him.
