In the early evening of a Tuesday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the life of 22-year-old Larry Maddix Jr. was cut short by gunfire. On December 6, 2022, police were called to the Hodo Haven Apartments on 33rd Street East around 6:10 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Maddix, a male victim, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit immediately began an active investigation into the shooting, which marked the 20th homicide in Tuscaloosa County for that year.
In
the initial hours following the discovery, law enforcement had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests, and they appealed to the public for any information regarding the shooting. The investigation progressed, and a suspect was identified. On Friday, December 9, 2022, the United States Marshals Task Force located and apprehended 29-year-old Jeremy Delvonte Hardaway of Tuscaloosa in the neighboring Bibb County.
Hardaway was taken into custody without incident on a murder warrant and was transported back to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. He was subsequently booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail. A judge set his cash bond at $1 million. While an arrest has been made, authorities have indicated that the investigation into the death of Larry Maddix Jr. is ongoing and have continued to ask for anyone with information to come forward.
