In the early hours of a Sunday morning in the Holt community of Tuscaloosa County, a place he called home, Jakeria Rashaad May’s life was tragically cut short. On April 7, 2024, the 35-year-old man was shot multiple times during an altercation at his residence on Virginia Drive. The incident unfolded around 1:45 a.m., shattering the quiet of the predawn hours.
Despite being rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center, May succumbed to his injuries.
The circumstances of his death were particularly harrowing as the shooting occurred in the presence of his 10-year-old daughter. This detail led to the escalation of charges against the man identified as the suspect. Later that same day, law enforcement, including local police and U.S. Marshals, located and arrested 30-year-old Terrelle Devonte Williams in connection with the fatal shooting.
Williams was subsequently charged with capital murder. The gravity of this charge stems from the fact that the alleged crime was committed in front of a child. Following his arrest, Williams was jailed without bond. The case was noted as the sixth homicide investigated by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit in 2024.
