On the night of April 15, 2021, 19-year-old Omar Childers was found deceased in his vehicle at the Springhill apartment complex in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Responding officers discovered that he had been fatally shot.

Investigators quickly identified Omar's cousin, 26-year-old Darren Childers, as the primary suspect in the homicide. A warrant for his arrest on capital murder charges was issued.
