In the late hours of a Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the life of 22-year-old Marquise Scott was tragically cut short. On January 18, 2025, police responded to a call of a shooting at the Creekwood Village Apartments, located just past Stillman College in the western part of the city. Inside one of the apartments, they discovered Scott, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the homicide, led by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, quickly pointed to a suspect. Within a day of the fatal shooting, authorities arrested 25-year-old Lagabriel Jones and charged him with murder. Investigators believe that the two men were acquainted and had a history of disputes, which may have culminated in the deadly encounter. Jones was taken into custody and is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond.
