In the spring of 2021, a life was tragically cut short in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Jamarqus Howard, a 24-year-old male, was found deceased on the evening of Saturday, April 24th. The initial call to authorities was for a vehicle accident at the Branscomb Apartments on 60th Street, where first responders discovered an unresponsive driver. It soon became apparent that a car crash was not the cause of death; callers subsequently reported that the driver had been shot.
Medical personnel who arrived at the scene pronounced Howard deceased.
The investigation into Howard's death was swiftly taken over by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. Through the process of collecting evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses, a suspect was identified. Raheem Abdule Davis, 25 years old at the time, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Jamarqus Howard. Davis was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail the morning after the incident and was denied bond.
Authorities revealed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other. The shooting was reportedly the culmination of an argument between the two acquaintances. The charge against Davis was elevated to capital murder due to the circumstance of Howard being shot while he was inside a vehicle.
