On December 20, 2023, 24-year-old Tristan Decedric Clark of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was fatally shot by police during a traffic stop near Bowers Park. Narcotics officers initiated the stop around noon, during which they identified Clark, a backseat passenger, as having an outstanding warrant. Officers reported observing a firearm in Clark's waistband and instructed him not to reach for it.
