In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a young man's life was cut short by gunfire. Larry Deashean Cameron, a 24-year-old male, was found unresponsive by Tuscaloosa Police Department officers at the University Manor Apartments on the 400 block of 30th Place. The call came in at approximately 12:18 a.m. on August 21, 2021. Despite the prompt response from emergency services, Larry Cameron was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the fatal shooting
was swift, with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit identifying a primary suspect. Just two days after the incident, investigators arrested 23-year-old Tobias Nickerson of Tuscaloosa in connection with Cameron's death. Nickerson was subsequently charged with Felony Murder and Attempted Murder, indicating another individual was targeted in the incident. He was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail to be held on bond.
Authorities indicated at the time of Nickerson's arrest that the investigation was ongoing and that additional charges could be brought against other individuals who may have been involved. While the immediate alleged perpetrator was apprehended, the full scope of the events leading to Cameron's untimely death remained under investigation.
