Rayshaun Glanton, a 42-year-old Black man from Midland City, Alabama, was known as a hard worker who loved his family. Remembered as fun, goofy, and the life of the party, he was the kind of person who never met a stranger. His wife later wrote that he was missed and loved.
On Halloween night, Sunday, October 31, 2021, Glanton was in Montgomery. At about 10:35 p.m., police and fire medics responded to a call in the 5800 block of Monticello Drive.
They arrived to find Glanton suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital, but he was pronounced dead from his injuries. He was one of several people fatally shot in the city that day.
The Montgomery Police Department immediately began an investigation into the homicide. Their work quickly led to a suspect, and an arrest was made the very next day. On November 1, 2021, authorities took Tyrone Burgess, a 46-year-old Montgomery resident, into custody. He was charged with murder and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
Investigators continued to work the case, and just over a week later, they identified a second person of interest. On November 9, 2021, police arrested 26-year-old Jeremie Rashad Wright. He was also charged with murder in connection with Rayshaun Glanton's death and was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility. At the time of his arrest, Wright was reportedly out on bond for a separate murder charge from 2018.
As of November 2021, two suspects had been arrested and charged with murder, and the case was proceeding through the legal system.
