In the early evening hours of December 19, 2020, tragedy struck in Montgomery, Alabama, forever altering the lives of those connected to Larry Friendly. A Black male, at 40 years old, Friendly became the city's 63rd homicide victim of the year. Police and fire medics were dispatched to the 4600 block of Virginia Pines Lane around 7 p.m. following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Friendly at the scene, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The Montgomery Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the violent death of Larry Friendly. Their efforts would later lead to a significant breakthrough in the case. A 16-year-old male named Jody Goodwin was identified as a suspect and subsequently arrested. Goodwin was charged with two counts of murder, one for the death of Larry Friendly and another for the killing of Martrell Williams, which occurred in January 2021.
In the wake of his untimely death, funeral services were held for Larry Friendly on December 26, 2020, at the Phillips-Riley Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Monte Maddox officiating. He was laid to rest in Kindle Cemetery in Montgomery.
