In the winter of 2018, the life of Stephen Hamby, a 29-year-old male, was tragically cut short in Montgomery, Alabama. On December 2nd, Hamby was the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident was part of a double shooting that also wounded a 54-year-old woman named Geraldine Talley. Both Hamby and Talley were homeless at the time of the attack. While Talley initially survived the shooting, she later passed away due to natural causes.
For a time, the case remained unresolved, becoming
another cold case in the Montgomery County District Attorney's files. However, in June of 2020, a significant breakthrough was announced. Ibraheem Yazeed, who was already in custody and charged with the high-profile capital murder of 19-year-old college student Aniah Blanchard, was indicted for the murder of Stephen Hamby. Along with the murder charge, Yazeed also faced an attempted murder charge concerning the shooting of Geraldine Talley.
At the time of his indictment in the Hamby case, Yazeed was already facing multiple serious charges in connection with other violent crimes. In addition to the capital murder charge in the Blanchard case, he was also out on bond for a February 2019 incident that led to charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and robbery. The charges against Yazeed in the death of Stephen Hamby represented a step forward in bringing a resolution to a case that had remained unsolved for over a year.
