LaCosta Williams, a 33-year-old man, was fatally shot on October 27, 2014, in his home at the Booker T. Washington Apartments in Columbus, Georgia. The incident unfolded as a robbery turned homicide, where several individuals allegedly conspired to rob Williams. At the time of the attack, he was watching his two children inside his apartment.
According to witness statements given to the police, four unmasked men entered Williams' apartment.
During the course of the robbery, two shots were fired, and the assailants then fled the scene. Williams succumbed to his injuries from the shooting. Remembered as one of Georgia's finest barbers, he was known for his unique voice, big smile, and charismatic presence. He was a father to four children.
In the ensuing investigation, police identified several suspects. One of the primary suspects, Corey Jenkins, was apprehended in Clayton County on November 22, 2014. His arrest came after the Clayton County sheriff's office received a tip regarding his location. Jenkins was taken into custody without incident on a murder warrant issued out of Muscogee County. Reports from the time indicated that at least three suspects had made court appearances in connection with Williams' death, and by early November 2014, police had arrested a sixth suspect in the case.
