In the winter of 1989, a sudden act of violence shattered the relative quiet of a Columbus, Georgia police station. On December 12th, Officer Clois W. Lamb, a 43-year-old man, was on duty inside the precinct when an individual entered and opened fire. The unexpected attack resulted in the death of Officer Lamb and left another officer wounded.
The assailant fled the scene on foot, but his freedom was short-lived.
Other officers responded swiftly, apprehending the suspect several blocks away from the police station. The individual was subsequently charged in connection with the fatal shooting.
Following the investigation and legal proceedings, the man responsible for Officer Lamb's death was convicted of murder. He received a sentence of life in prison, with an additional 20 years. Officer Lamb had served with the Columbus Police Department for three and a half years and was survived by his wife and two children.
