In the early morning hours of March 18, 2016, Francisco Perez, a 37-year-old Hispanic male, was walking home to his apartment in the Bronx. At approximately 3 a.m., as he neared his residence on Union Avenue, he was ambushed by two unidentified men. The assailants opened fire, striking Perez multiple times in the head and chest in front of a pre-kindergarten school located below his apartment.
The violent encounter was brief, and the two suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a
maroon-colored van. Emergency services were called, and Perez was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. For nearly a month, he fought for his life, but ultimately succumbed to his severe injuries. Following his death, the New York Police Department reclassified the incident as a homicide and began an investigation.
Authorities released surveillance footage of the getaway vehicle to the public in the hopes of generating leads that would lead to the capture of the individuals responsible for Perez's death. Despite these efforts, and the ongoing investigation by the NYPD, no arrests have been made in the case. The identities of the two men who ambushed Francisco Perez remain unknown, and the case remains unsolved.
