In the early morning hours of June 5, 2022, the life of 34-year-old Kimar Street was tragically cut short in what appeared to be a robbery attempt in the Bronx. A Black male, Street was discovered inside his Mazda at the intersection of Wilder Avenue and Cranford Avenue with a fatal gunshot wound to the left side of his head. Police had responded to a 911 call reporting a male in need of assistance at approximately 8:39 a.m.
Upon their arrival, emergency medical services pronounced him dead at the scene.
Originally from Jamaica, Kimar Street had moved to the United States in 2007, seeking a better life for himself. To support himself and his loved ones, he worked diligently, driving a cab and taking on various odd jobs. His pursuit of the American dream came to a violent end while he was sitting in his car.
The investigation into Street's death led to the arrest of 51-year-old Blaine Lea on July 5, 2022. Authorities identified Lea, a man with a prior murder conviction for which he had served time and was on parole, as the primary suspect. According to police reports, Lea approached Street's vehicle and opened fire, striking him in the head during an attempted robbery. He was apprehended while visiting his parole officer in New Rochelle.
Following his arrest, Blaine Lea was charged with a number of serious crimes, including murder, manslaughter, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon. The case against him is currently ongoing as the judicial process moves forward.
