Kevin J. Gillespie, a 33-year-old police officer with the New York City Police Department, tragically lost his life on March 14, 1996, in the Bronx, NY. Officer Gillespie was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop involving a stolen BMW. He and his partner had pulled over the vehicle, which had been carjacked earlier that evening.
