In the late afternoon of November 21, 2022, a violent encounter at a Mobil gas station on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx set off a tragic chain of events. Raymond Genao, a 29-year-old male, was inside his black Toyota Camry when he was shot in the back. Despite his grave injury, Genao managed to drive away from the scene, traveling for about two miles before his strength gave out.
His journey came to a devastating end in the Kingsbridge Heights neighborhood, near Sedgwick
Avenue. There, Genao's vehicle struck multiple parked cars before overturning. Emergency services were called to the chaotic scene at approximately 4:50 p.m. Paramedics rushed Genao to the New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, but his wound proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly. Two days later, on November 23, 2022, the New York Police Department made an arrest in connection with the homicide. Manuel Palma, a 26-year-old resident of Manhattan, was taken into custody.
Palma was subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. While the specific motive was not officially released by the NYPD, police sources indicated that the shooting was suspected to be part of a drug-related robbery.
