On the afternoon of November 27, 2024, Jerron Grant, a 29-year-old male, was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York. The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. near the Bronx County Hall of Justice on East 161st Street and Morris Avenue. Police officers who were stationed at a nearby foot post witnessed the shooting unfold.
A 15-year-old, identified as Jayden Baez, allegedly fired a gun multiple times, striking Grant in the torso. After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene on foot.
The officers who witnessed the event immediately pursued him. The chase ended about half a mile away at East 156th Street and Courtlandt Avenue, where the teenager was taken into custody on a roof landing. A. 40-caliber semi-automatic pistol was recovered at the scene. Emergency responders transported Grant to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. He left behind two children, a son and a daughter.
Following the incident, Jayden Baez was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Further investigation by detectives linked the firearm used in Grant's death to two other recent shootings in the Bronx. One of these incidents, which occurred on November 20, 2024, resulted in a 65-year-old woman being shot in the leg. Another teenager, 17-year-old Ley Baio, was also charged in connection with that shooting. The investigation also connected Baez to an incident on October 14, 2024, where he allegedly fired multiple shots into a crowd. Baez was indicted on charges for all three incidents and was remanded.
