In the early morning hours of December 30, 2016, a burst of gunfire shattered the late-night quiet outside a Bronx bodega. When the echoes faded, 27-year-old Kareem Moye was left lying on the pavement at the corner of East 170th Street and College Avenue in the Claremont Village section of the borough. He had been shot in the chest in what police believe was a targeted attack.
The male victim was rushed to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses reported hearing approximately three shots. The gunman, described as a man wearing a black hooded jacket and blue jeans, approached Moye and opened fire without any words being exchanged. After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene, disappearing into the Bronx night. Investigators recovered a handgun near the location of the incident.
Despite the belief that Kareem Moye was the intended victim, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. Police noted at the time that Moye had a history of arrests for various offenses, including assault and robbery. The corner where he was killed had also been the scene of another fatal shooting just months prior.
