A Tuesday afternoon dispute on a Bronx subway platform culminated in the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Adrian Dawodu. The incident, which marked the first homicide in the city's transit system for the year, unfolded just before 3 p.m. at the 170th Street station on the B and D lines. An altercation that began on the train spilled out onto the southbound platform, where Dawodu was shot multiple times.
Responding to a 911 call, police officers found Dawodu with gunshot wounds to his groin
and thigh. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. Video footage captured by a passenger on a passing train showed Dawodu on the ground as the gunman fled the scene.
The New York Police Department quickly launched an investigation and identified 27-year-old Alberto Frias as the suspect. Authorities released a photograph of Frias and asked for the public's assistance in locating him. The investigation revealed that Frias and Dawodu knew each other and had been in a dispute prior to the shooting. Frias was seen on video fleeing to a nearby apartment and asking his girlfriend and another family member to order him a Lyft.
On the morning of February 19, 2026, Alberto Frias was taken into custody within the 44th Precinct. He was subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. The brazen rush-hour shooting on a busy subway platform shocked the city.
