Javorius Tykies Scott, a 24-year-old male known professionally as the rapper JayDaYoungan, was shot and killed on the evening of July 27, 2022, in his hometown of Bogalusa, Louisiana. The fatal incident occurred just before 6 p.m. in the 600 block of Superior Avenue, where Scott and his father, Kenyatta Scott Sr., were sitting in the front yard of their residence.
According to the elder Scott, they were suddenly ambushed by multiple gunmen.
The attack unfolded rapidly when a black truck approached their home, and three armed individuals emerged, opening fire. As Scott and his father attempted to flee inside, two more gunmen appeared from the side of the house and also began shooting. Kenyatta Scott Sr., who was also armed, returned fire in an attempt to defend himself and his son. In the barrage of bullets, Javorius Scott was struck at least eight times. He was rushed to a local hospital, Our Lady of the Angels, where he succumbed to his injuries. His father was shot twice in the arm and was reported to be in stable condition after the attack.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting that took Scott’s life, another shooting was reported shortly after 7 p.m. in the 800 block of Marshall Richardson Road. In this second incident, a vehicle was shot, though its occupants were unharmed. The Bogalusa Police Department stated their belief that the two shootings were related. While authorities have investigated potential motives, including gang activity and retaliation, Kenyatta Scott Sr. stated his belief that the motive was jealousy over his son's success. He did not think his son knew the gunmen or that the attack was gang-related.
As of early 2025, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in direct connection with the murder of Javorius Scott, and the case officially remains unsolved. Police have been conducting interviews and following leads since the incident occurred. In the days following the murder, another local rapper, FG Famous, who was described as a friend of Scott, was arrested in New Orleans for an alleged retaliatory shooting, though it is unclear if anyone was injured in that event. The investigation into Scott's death is ongoing.
