Clarence Triggs, a 24-year-old African-American bricklayer and veteran, was murdered on July 30, 1966, in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Triggs had recently moved to Bogalusa from Jackson, Mississippi, with his wife Emma. He was actively involved in civil rights marches organized by the Congress on Racial Equality and the Bogalusa Voters League, advocating for the right of African Americans to register to vote.
Triggs was found shot in the head near a wrecked car registered to the wife of Homer R.
