On March 28, 2023, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts in the 500 block of 12th Street Southwest. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Sidney Cornell Saxton unresponsive on the sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
