On May 21, 2023, at approximately 5:25 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Cortland Vesta apartment complex, located at 2173 Highland Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 27-year-old Christian Breon Wyatt lying unresponsive in the parking garage, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
