On May 12, 2023, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1000 block of Elm Street Southwest. Upon arrival, they discovered 43-year-old John Anthony Jackson lying unresponsive near a vehicle, having sustained a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
