On April 20, 2023, 39-year-old Derek Jason Wright was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 4:35 p.m., officers from the Birmingham Police Department's West Precinct responded to reports of a person shot in the 400 block of 4th Street Thomas. Upon arrival, they found Wright lying in a front yard, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
