On July 13, 2023, 33-year-old Nicholas Marquis Johnson of Bessemer, Alabama, was fatally shot during an argument in the parking lot of the Vines at Hillside West Apartment Complex, located in the 5800 block of Monte Sano Road in Birmingham. At approximately 9:20 PM, West Precinct officers responded to reports of an altercation, which escalated to gunfire.
