On May 17, 2023, at approximately 7:55 PM, Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a shooting at the Springville Landing Apartment Complex in the 700 Block of Springville Road. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male lying unresponsive near an apartment; he was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A second male, identified as 20-year-old Patrick Bennett of Odenville, Alabama, was found deceased in a nearby grassy area.
