On June 8, 2023, at approximately 11:45 PM, Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a person shot in the 1600 block of 18th Place North. Upon arrival, they discovered 42-year-old Demetrius Duante Harris unresponsive in a parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel transported Harris to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
