On a Wednesday morning in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 56-year-old Darryl Bowie, a Black male from the suburb of Fairfield, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded around 10:40 a.m. on November 15, 2023, in the 400 block of 5th Street Pratt. It was there that officers from the West Precinct responded to a call of a person shot.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene.
Darryl Bowie was found lying unresponsive in the roadway, having sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Not far away, on the sidewalk, an adult woman was also found suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel from Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene and pronounced Bowie deceased. The female victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation into the shooting suggests that both Bowie and the female victim were together when one or more unknown individuals opened fire on them. Following the shooting, the suspect, or suspects, quickly fled the scene in a vehicle. The Birmingham Police Department is actively investigating the case as a homicide.
