On the evening of July 15, 2023, 62-year-old Daryl Maurice Jones and his close friend, 71-year-old Lee Ross, were enjoying their routine weekend gathering in the backyard of a residence on the 1700 block of 48th Street in Birmingham's Ensley neighborhood.
