On January 15, 2023, at approximately 2:20 a.m., the Birmingham Police Department's Shot Spotter system detected multiple gunshots in the 100 block of 4th Avenue North. An off-duty officer working nearby responded to the alerts and discovered an adult female victim near the roadway, suffering from a gunshot wound. Nearby, a vehicle riddled with bullet holes was found, with 31-year-old Thomas Lee Bailey unresponsive inside, also suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel
