On December 3, 2023, 19-year-old Birmingham resident Nigel Riddick Roberson succumbed to injuries sustained in a targeted shooting. The incident occurred the previous day, December 2, around 3:38 p.m., when Birmingham Police Department officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts in the 900 block of 5th Avenue North.
