On December 26, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., 26-year-old Exavier Tywan Mitchell was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Dollar General store located at 2314 Bessemer Road in Birmingham, Alabama. The Birmingham 911 Communications Division received a ShotSpotter alert, prompting officers to respond to the scene.
