On January 25, 2023, at approximately 7:10 PM, Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a shooting report in the 1400 block of 27th Street Ensley. Upon arrival, they discovered 48-year-old Roman Gonzalez of Bessemer, Alabama, unresponsive on a set of stairs outside a residence. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Gonzalez was part of a crew renovating the residence when unknown suspects forcefully
