Jason Joseph Brown, a 40-year-old male, was tragically killed on March 14, 2023, in a violent shooting that also claimed the life of his fiancée, Tiffany Michele Hernandez, age 40. The incident occurred inside a home in Birmingham, Alabama's South East Lake neighborhood. Brown, who was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, had moved to Alabama and was working in construction and landscaping. He was known for his love of cooking and his skill in building and fixing things.
He is survived by his two sons, David and Parker, as well as his parents and siblings.
The killings of Brown and Hernandez were part of a larger string of violence that spanned two counties and resulted in the deaths of two other individuals, Amber L. Manning, 37, and Timothy R. Davidson, 62, in the town of Ragland. The suspect in all four homicides was identified as Daniel 'Parker' Watson, 31, of Pell City. Watson confessed to the Birmingham killings to a Leeds police officer hours after the crime, leading authorities to the discovery of Brown's and Hernandez's bodies.
Watson was subsequently arrested and charged with capital murder for the deaths of Jason Brown and Tiffany Hernandez. During his trial, prosecutors revealed that Brown had been shot in the face, while Hernandez was shot in the back of the head. Watson's defense attorneys claimed he acted in a fit of passion while under the influence of drugs, believing the victims had harmed his daughters, a claim for which authorities found no evidence.
In September 2025, a Jefferson County jury convicted Daniel Parker Watson of capital murder after a six-day trial. Following the conviction, the jury deliberated for approximately an hour before recommending the death penalty by a vote of 11-1. Watson still faces charges in St. Clair County for the murders of Amber Manning and Timothy Davidson.
