On October 3, 2023, at approximately 10:20 p.m., 32-year-old Michael Ledale Scott was fatally shot while seated in his vehicle outside a residence in the 5500 block of Avenue J in Birmingham, Alabama. Responding to a ShotSpotter alert, West Precinct officers arrived to find Scott unresponsive inside his car, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
