On March 26, 2023, 17-year-old Caleb Cornandus Witt was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 12:15 p.m., the Birmingham 911 Communications Division received multiple ShotSpotter alerts near the 200 block of 3rd Avenue Southwest. Officers responded to the University Crossings apartment complex, where they discovered Witt lying unresponsive in the parking lot, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
