Timothy Wayne Worsham III, a 22-year-old Black male, was tragically killed on December 5, 2022, in Birmingham, Alabama, an innocent victim caught in the crossfire of a running gun battle. The incident unfolded in broad daylight in the 700 block of Springville Road when occupants of two other vehicles opened fire on one another. Worsham was driving his personal vehicle when he was struck by the gunfire.
Birmingham police were already in the area and heard the gunshots.
They quickly located a stolen Hyundai that was involved in the shootout. A police pursuit ensued, ending when the suspects' vehicle crashed into another car. The two occupants of the stolen vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Martelus Rarsheen Brody and 19-year-old Ja'Mari Deon Hyche, were taken into custody. A third individual who was also in the car was injured and transported to a local hospital.
Following an investigation by the Birmingham Police Department, Brody and Hyche were charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Timothy Worsham III. Authorities have stated that Worsham was not an intended target of the gunfire. Both Brody and Hyche were booked into the Jefferson County Jail and are being held without bond.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing as police continue to seek the other vehicle involved in the exchange of gunfire. No further arrests or suspects have been publicly identified.
