On October 29, 2016, 20-year-old Demarcus Dewon Bennett of Fairfield, Alabama, was fatally shot in Birmingham. The incident occurred around 10:57 p.m. in the 1000 block of 3rd Avenue West, following the Magic City Classic football game.
