On the evening of July 29, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Sylacauga Police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Drew Court Housing Community on Inglewood Drive. Upon arrival, residents directed them to the intersection of North Main Avenue and Sherwood Drive, where they discovered 20-year-old Ja'Drean Mondrell Dykes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Dykes was pronounced deceased at the scene by Talladega County Coroner Shaddox Murphy.
