On Friday, July 29, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the sound of gunshots echoed through the Drew Court Housing Community. Responding to reports of the gunfire, officers from the Sylacauga Police Department were waved down by concerned residents near the intersection of North Main Avenue and Sherwood Drive. There, they discovered Dykes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response from law enforcement, Ja'Drean Mondrell Dykes was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Talladega County Coroner.
