In the late afternoon of September 28, 2020, the life of 18-year-old Ameir Sherrod Townsend was tragically cut short in Sylacauga, Alabama. Deputies from the Talladega County Sheriff's Office, along with members of the Childersburg Fire Department, responded to a call about an unresponsive person on Brown Road at approximately 5:30 P.M. Upon arrival, they discovered the young man, a resident of Sylacauga, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Talladega County Coroner.
The preliminary cause of death was determined to be an apparent gunshot wound.
Ameir, who was born on October 5, 2001, was a former student of Childersburg High School. Remembered for his vibrant personality and a smile that he always seemed to have on his face, he was a passionate and caring individual who was well-loved by his teachers, peers, and family. His death left a void in the lives of his mother, siblings, and a large extended family.
The Talladega County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation into Townsend's death. Investigators processed the scene for evidence and sought out potential witnesses. In an effort to generate leads, a $5,000 reward was offered for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this senseless act of violence. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Talladega County Investigations Division.
