In the early spring of 2023, the life of a vibrant 16-year-old male, Dallas Bee Johnson, was tragically cut short in Sylacauga, Alabama. Known affectionately as 'Cowboy' to his family and friends, Dallas was a student at Coosa Central High School who was remembered for his love of football and his goofy, fun-loving nature that brought joy to many. His sudden death on March 7, 2023, left a deep void in his community, leaving many hearts broken by the loss of a young man described as being full
of life.
The circumstances surrounding Dallas Johnson's death led to a swift investigation by the Sylacauga Police Department. Their efforts culminated two weeks later in the arrest of 18-year-old Julian Nacarie Speer, also from Sylacauga. Speer was taken into custody without incident at a relative's home in Gadsden by a team of law enforcement officers including Sylacauga Investigators, Talladega County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force Agents, members of the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, and Agents from the U.S. Marshal's Service.
Following his apprehension, Julian Nacarie Speer was charged with Capital Murder in connection with the death of Dallas Johnson. He was interviewed by investigators before being transported to the Talladega County Jail to await his initial court hearing. A warrant for his arrest was signed by a Talladega County Circuit Judge with no bond set. A subsequent search of the residence where Speer was found resulted in the seizure of firearms, which were to be processed to determine their relevance to the case.
