On March 10, 2021, 35-year-old African American male Cory Lamont Peterson was fatally shot at the Red Roof Inn located on Academy Court in Bessemer, Alabama. At approximately 12:05 a.m., Bessemer police responded to reports of gunfire at the hotel. Upon arrival, officers discovered Cory Lamont Peterson suffering from a gunshot wound.
