In the fading light of a Friday afternoon in Bessemer, Alabama, the life of 33-year-old Dominique Louvert Giles, a Black/African American male, was brought to a violent and abrupt end. On November 12, 2021, at approximately 3:09 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the 800 block of 32nd Street North. When the Bessemer Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Giles suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the location.
Witnesses at the scene reported a chaotic exchange of gunfire between individuals, a harrowing event that culminated in Giles's fatal injuries. The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect. In a significant development, 22-year-old Bradley Nykee Woods voluntarily surrendered to the Bessemer Police Department in the aftermath of the incident. His surrender led to his arrest in connection with the death of Giles.
Following his arrest, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office issued warrants against Woods, formally charging him with capital murder and first-degree robbery. After being processed, Woods was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail, where he was held without the possibility of bond.
