On August 31, 2020, at approximately 9:15 p.m., 29-year-old Jeremy Melvin Simpson was fatally shot in Bessemer, Alabama. Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2100 block of Berkley Avenue, where they discovered Simpson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:20 p.m. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirmed that Simpson died as a result of the gunshot injury.
