On the evening of October 25, 2020, in the parking lot of a Red Roof Inn in Bessemer, Alabama, 26-year-old Torrandine James Robert Harris, a male, was found shot to death. Bessemer police officers, responding to reports of gunfire at the 4985 Academy Court location, discovered Harris deceased from his wounds upon their arrival.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify 29-year-old Travis Leshun Lee as the primary suspect in Harris's murder. Warrants were subsequently issued for Lee's arrest on a murder charge. In September 2021, a significant break in the case occurred when Lee was located and apprehended in Arkansas. He was then extradited back to Alabama to face the charges related to Harris's death.
Following his return to Alabama, Travis Leshun Lee was granted bond and released while awaiting trial. However, the legal proceedings took a dramatic turn on March 11, 2024. Upon learning that his bond was being revoked, Lee fled from the courtroom. This act led to additional charges of first-degree escape and failure to appear for the murder trial. The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force took over the search for Lee on March 18, 2024. Their efforts came to a successful conclusion on June 12, 2024, when they captured Lee at a motel in southeast Memphis, Tennessee. He was taken into custody without incident and is awaiting extradition back to Alabama to face the multiple charges against him.
